Fujifilm just announced a new 2x teleconverter for X-Series cameras called “Fujinon XF2X TC WR”. It is a new 2x teleconverter increasing the telephoto reach of two X-mount lenses, the Fujinon XF50-140mmF2.8 R LM OIS WR and XF100-400mmF4.5-5.6 R LM OIS WR.
Teleconverter XF2X TC WR features an optical construction of 9 elements in 5 groups. In addition, thanks to unified design when mounted to a compatible lens, the new 2X teleconverter is weather and dust-resistant and operates at temperatures as low as -10 degrees Celsius. Phase detection AF is still available when using the XF50-140mmF2.8 R LM OIS WR with the teleconverter mounted. Along with the XF100-400mmF4.5-5.6 R LM OIS WR lens, photographers can use CDAF. The camera’s optical image stabilization (OIS) performance is unaffected by the addition of the teleconverter.
Fujifilm say it features an excellent optical design with a construction of nine elements in 5 groups to maintain optical performance of the original lens. Phase detection AF is still available when using the XF50-140mmF2.8 R LM OIS WR with the 2x teleconverter mounted.
The new teleconverter is weather and dust resistant and can operate at temperatures down to -10 degrees c. This is handy, as 2 of the cameras in the X-Series, the X-T1 and X-Pro2 bodies, are also dust and weather resistant along with the XF50-140mm f/2.8 R LM OIS WR and the XF100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 R LM OIS WR lenses.
A firmware update will be required for the FUJINON XF50-140mm f/2.8 R LM OIS WR and the FUJINON XF100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 R LM OIS WR lenses in order to offer full compatibility. This firmware is planned to be available at the beginning of June 2016 and The teleconverter is set to be on sale from the end of June 2016 for £349.
